Primary School Sport Premium

The Government is providing Primary Schools with ring-fenced funding for the academic years until 2020, to improve the quality and breadth of PE and sport in their schools.

As the County Sports Partnership for Berkshire, Get Berkshire Active have been commissioned by Sport England to strengthen the links between primary schools and those organisations working in sport both locally and nationally, including the Youth Sport Trust (YST), the Association for Physical Education (afPE) and School Sport Partnerships.

Get Berkshire Active have put together some useful guidance and information on the from national and local partners, for schools, head-teachers, PE staff and deliverers of sport to primary aged children.




Calling all Primary School Headteachers, Governors and PE Leads


Get Berkshire Active (the County Sport and Physical Activity Partnership for Berkshire) will be running its first ever Physical Activity Conference for Primary Schools on April 18th at Sindlesham Court, Wokingham.


Maximising your Primary PE and School Sport Premium, priced at a total of £50 for three members of school staff (PE Lead, Headteacher and a Governor), will give you the opportunity to:

  • Hear from national experts in the field
  • Receive key updates
  • Speak to a wide range of providers and equipment suppliers
  • Network with colleagues from around the county
  • Attend workshops on a range of relevant themes

 Dr William Bird MBE Founder of Intelligent Health – William will focus on the science and medical reasons of why pupils should be encouraged to engage in Physical Activity

Sue Wilkinson MBE  Strategic Lead for the Association of Physical Education -Sue will talk about accountability and evidencing impact for schools around the PE and School Sport Premium

Derek Peaple Headteacher of Park House School Newbury and Chair of the Berkshire School Games Local Organising Committee – Derek will talk about the wider benefits of PE, Physical Activity and School Sport to pupils and achieving whole school outcomes

Workshops on: Mindfulness and tackling stress through activity 

    Family engagement- Engaging families to play and learn together 

  The Role of Governors in PE & School Sport (specifically for Governors)

     Active 30- Find out how to make your school a more physically active place throughout the day benefiting your pupils' health,  well-being and achievement
