Last year, a challenging time for the whole world and our county, the GBA Awards recognised the fantastic contribution of local individuals and organisations to the mental and physical wellbeing of Berkshire residents. The 'Berkshire physical activity lockdown hero', a campaign celebrating the 9th GBA Awards' winners on BBC Radio Berkshire and social media, united residents, communities and activity providers around the joy and importance of physical activity and helped keep spirits high in the county during the winter lockdown.
This year, as we are recovering from the pandemic, the 10th GBA Awards will continue recognising individuals and organisations that contributed to a healthier and more resilient Berkshire. There is one award category – the 'Berkshire physical activity hero'.
Frazer George at GetFit Berkshire
Frazer established GetFit Berkshire during a challenging Covid-19 year (2020). As a result of his desire to get people outdoors and encourage the community to get physically and mentally healthy, he created a movement of people from all walks of life who are embracing the benefits of group exercise.
As well as managing a full-time job, Frazer runs 6 sessions each week for his group and maintains constant support through dedicated WhatsApp chats.
"Becoming a member of GetFit Berkshire has seen me through the dark days of lockdown and out again, and I thoroughly enjoy being part of this awesome community Frazer has established" – Nicola, member of GetFit Berkshire.
