How to Coach the Fundamentals of Movement (UK Coaching)

The workshop has been updated to reflect the latest thinking presented in the Youth Physical Development Model (YPDM), which promotes coaching of FMS throughout a lifetime of sport, not just childhood, and challenges long accepted opinion that strength training should be held back until children reach adolescence.

The objective of this workshop is to help coaches, teachers and parents understand the importance of developing fundamental movement skills in children and beyond. The content of the workshop reflects contemporary evidence and practice in how best to promote the development of movement skills in children and beyond and has been authored by global experts Dr Jon Oliver and Dr Rhodri Lloyd from Cardiff Metropolitan University.

By the end of this workshop, you should be able to:

• understand what fundamental movement skills are and why they are important

• understand the process of observing and correcting movement skill competency

• design and deliver warm-ups that promote movement skill development

• design and deliver body weight management training exercises that promote movement skill development.
