Get Berkshire Active (the County Sport and Physical Activity Partnership for Berkshire) will be staging its annual conference for primary schools on 26th April (9 - 3.30pm) at Sindlesham Court, Sindlesham, Wokingham. The event will support primaries with identified areas of Physical Activity, PE and School Sport and consist of keynotes and practical workshops delivered by national leads and by teachers and head teachers who are working on the ground in local schools. There will also be plenty of opportunity to network, share good practice and meet with providers and suppliers in the market place area.

Confirmed conference keynotes are

  • Mike Crichton Chair of Association for Physical Education – Mike's talk will centre around accountability and measuring impact around the PE and School Sport Premium
  • Jon Glenn Learn to Swim and Workforce Director at Swim England – Jon's talk will give guidance to schools around primary swimming including how it should be recorded and working together with your leisure provider
  • Helen Daniels Local Primary Headteacher – Helen's talk will focus on why she believes PE, Physical Activity and School Sport is so important to the pupils that attend her school and the whole school outcomes that result from a balanced offer
  • Matt Pearce Lead Consultant in Public Health and Head of Public Health at West Berkshire Council. Matt's talk 'Move more and sit less – a public health perspective on physical inactivity' will cover the latest data on physical activity levels and trends across Berkshire, how physical activity benefits more than just physical health, how can we use evidence to increase physical activity, what is the role of behaviour change science to increase physical activity

Confirmed workshops so far include

  • Maths of the Day – How the Maths curriculum can be delivered through Physical Activity
  • Swim England - Primary Swimming – Following on from the keynote, the workshop will give practical guidance around the delivery of school swimming
  • Your School and the Cricket World Cup delivered by Berkshire Cricket – The workshop will give ideas on how the Cricket World Cup can be used across the curriculum to help engage students highlighting the wide range of digital and online resources that are available
  • How to inspire and equip all staff to deliver outstanding experiences for every child delivered by Create Development - The workshop will use Jasmine (their online platform) as the vehicle to support staff confidence, pupil progress and alignment to school vision / values.
  • "Fun & Exciting Badminton in your Primary School Hall with the "Racket Pack". The workshop will show delegates all about "Racket Pack", a primary schools badminton initiative delivered by Community Badminton and Badminton England
  • The 5 Ways to Wellbeing delivered by West Berkshire Council Health and Wellbeing in Schools Team. The workshop will provide delegates with an overview of the approach, how the 5 ways can support the wellbeing of children, young people and adults, how it can be embedded as a whole school approach and the links to the new Health curriculum and Ofsted guidance

In addition to the above there will be lots of opportunities to speak to providers and clubs who will be showcasing their offers in the market place.
