It will also feature presentations and discussions covering principles and possible solutions to overcome barriers and challenges often associated with targeting this audience.

Active Ageing Forum 15th October 2019

This event will explore the positive impact being more physically active can have on issues commonly associated with ageing. It will also feature presentations and discussions covering principles and possible solutions to overcome barriers and challenges often associated with targeting this audience.

This event is relevant for individuals working in the following sectors and/or areas

  • Adult Social Care
  • Falls prevention
  • Exercise Referral
  • Physio/Exercise therapy
  • Long term health conditions including mental health

Featured presentations will include:

1. Raising the bar on strength and balance: The importance of community-based provision

This presentation delivered by the Centre for Ageing Better presents the models of delivery, issues, barriers and innovative solutions of community-based strength and balance programmes.

2. Loneliness in Later Life

This presentation delivered by Age UK Berkshire will present some of the headlines discovered by research carried out by Age UK, along with potential solutions. Colleagues from Wokingham Borough Council Sport and Leisure will provide an outline of the solution they have developed to help tackle this issue locally.

3. Dementia Friendly Sport and Physical Activity guide

GBA's Kirsty Heath will present this guide on behalf of the Alzheimer's Society which has been developed to inform and educate individuals and organisations so they have a better understanding of dementia and how it affects people.

4. Talk to Me Principles: Supporting you to engage all older people in physical activity

Helen Newberry, Engagement Advisor from the Activity Alliance will present these principles which were developed in partnership with Age UK and utilise learning from the Alliance's 'Get Active Get Outdoors' programme.
