Tackling the causes of the causes of crime

Get Berkshire Active and Thames Valley Police and Crime Commissioner are excited to be hosting a second forum designed to bring together organisations from across Berkshire to hear more about some of the solutions from sport, physical activity and experiential learning to help tackle the underlying drivers of crime. With a particular focus on the application of psychology and appreciative inquiry techniques within these solutions.

GBA would like to invite you to attend this free of charge forum on Thursday 6th February 2020 which will take place at Sindlesham Court (Wokingham) between 9.30am and 1.30pm.

The focus will be "Learning from good practice and the role of appreciative inquiry in addressing offending behaviour" and we are delighted to confirm the following influential keynote speakers:

  • Cheri Torres – lead catalyst and author of Conversations Worth Having: Using Appreciative Inquiry to Fuel Productive and Meaningful Engagement'
  • Cath Marriott, Policy Development – Partnerships and Performance, Office of the Police and Crime Commissioner – Thames Valley
  • Dave Evans – Community Trust Manager, Reading Football Club Community Trust
  • Nick West-Oram, Head of Development and Insight, and Chelsea Piggott, Programme Delivery Officer, at Get Berkshire Active

A finalised full agenda will be sent out nearer the time however there will be opportunities to network and refreshments and lunch will be provided.

This event would benefit anyone in organisations with an interest in tackling the social issues that create the conditions that cause criminal activity and those organisations that deliver physical activity and sport. This includes;

  • Sports clubs / trusts; NGB's, charities (in particular those supporting young people, ex-offenders, substance misuse, employment, community renewal etc) and commercial organisations working with/providing activities for young people
  • Schools, Local Authority community / sport development; social services; Public Health, DWP.
