WELCOME TO AUGUST E-NEWS
Get Berkshire Active is a charity supporting our local county to 'Get More People, More Active' and this month we welcome two new team members to help achieve our vision! Shirley Jackson and Tessa Higgins bring a wealth of expertise to their new role as Physical Activity Practitioners, which will help develop and support the 'Move More' programme in partnership with Macmillian. We are thrilled to have them on board, and wish them much success in their new positions!
In contrast, sadly this month we say goodbye to a valued team member. Neel Sood has been with GBA for over 4 years. Having been a huge asset to our team, we wish Neel the very best in his future career and would like to say a heartfelt thank you for always showing team spirit, hard work and commitment in the office everyday. Good luck Neel, we shall miss you!
Looking forward into September and beyond we have some great events, forums and courses for you to attend, see below for all booking details!

Celebrates its 1st Birthday!
Our Ever Active programme has reached its 1st Birthday (hip hip hoooray!). Very successfully this programme has engaged over 700 adults in a range of physical and social activities and services including; yoga, new age bowls, community food growing, home visits and tai chi.
It is open to anyone over the age of 50 and adults of any age with a disability, living in West Berkshire. It was introduced to help provide accessible, social opportunities for residents that might be prone to experiencing social isolation and loneliness.

TACKLING INACTIVITY DURING THE SUMMER HOLIDAYS
"Young people have a lot of other distractions in this day and age but simple, outdoor pursuits like angling have been proved time and time again to be good for health and wellbeing and for gaining a greater understanding of the countryside and the environment." (Martin Salter, Head of Campaigns, The Angling Trust")
With the school holidays in full swing, and the prospect of young ones looking for ways to spend their time over the long six week break, we'd love to know what your organisation is doing to get them active so that we can support your campaigns and help reach more people. The Angling Trust reached out to us with their programme to get children and young people hooked on fishing this summer.
#NationalFishingMonth, Get Fishing events and Get Hooked on Fishing are all campaigns supported by the Angling Trust to provide more opportunities for people to go fishing this summer. Using funding from both the Environment Agency and Sport England, the campaigns give children and young people the chance to get free fishing lessons with qualified coaches and tackle is often made available free of charge.
