SUMMER SERIES

Due to the current COVID-19 situation all School Games events both at local and county level and all intra school competition have been cancelled.

What did we do to fill the void?

When we started the Virtual School Games back during the Easter break, deep in lockdown, we really weren't sure how this was going to pan out, but we knew we wanted to create something to help schools promote physical activity during the strangest of times, for their Key Worker children still in school, and for the majority of children who were home schooling at that point.

So the Berkshire Virtual School Games was created, working with the School Sport Partnerships in the county. They consisted of a set of individual challenges that could be done with minimal equipment at home targeting different levels for KS1, KS2 and KS3, with the aim to give children a focus on trying something active, with personal best in mind. It evolved as time and the situation moved on, and the response from our schools was fantastic, especially once phased return started! Schools really embraced it and ran with it. We have been able to reward schools for Achievement (traditional competition) but also for Spirit of the Games (Participation) and the overwhelming success of these Virtual Games has been the numbers of children that have taken part, and the different children that have taken part. We look forward to expanding this section of rewards in the Autumn Series.
