About Sport and Physical Activity Officer
You'll be part of big changes in Barnsley. We're not just changing ways of working and improving services. We're committed to promoting wellbeing and tackling health inequalities in our communities. As a Sport and Physical Activity Officer, you'll be instrumental in a range of work areas to help Barnsley to Move More. Live Well. Feel Better.
Creativity, ambition and a focus on people. That's what matters at Barnsley Council. Our award-winning council is on an exciting journey of change. It's all about putting local people and our partner organisations at the heart of our work, listening to and doing good for our communities. We're now more innovative, more efficient and provide better value for money.
Your role in our journey
As a Sport and Physical Activity Officer, you will provide specialist support to a portfolio of initiatives and work areas such as our:
- Walk development programme.
- Disability sport and physical activity.
- Health interventions support.
- Active school development.
- Events.
Working in close partnership with colleagues in the team, across the council and a host of statutory, community and voluntary groups, you will lend your expertise to programmes promoting physical activity, health, and wellbeing. Crucially, you'll also help us to develop, deliver and evaluate projects that relate to tackling health inequalities. What's more, you'll help us to develop services, new approaches and play a key part in needs assessments and service reviews.
What you'll need
To join us, you'll need a mix of relevant qualifications with at least one being at level 4 or above, and extensive experience in the sport and physical activity sector. Your track record includes involvement in securing funding, project management and the development of approaches to change services and outcomes. You've used evidence-based project, change and performance management techniques to drive successful change. With a flair for public engagement and partnership working, it is your talent for communication that really sets you apart.
Shape a better future with us
We're thrilled to have achieved Investors in People (IIP) Gold status for how we lead, support, and develop people. Now we'd like you to be part of our success and help us use physical activity as a tool to help residents Move More. Live Well. Feel Better. Join us on our journey to a brighter future. By working together, with each other and with our communities, we can take pride in improving lives. Let's make a better Barnsley for everyone.
A lot to look forward to
Here at Barnsley, we live and work by four important values: honesty, teamwork, excellent service, and taking pride in what we do. As part of our team, you can be sure we'll do all we can to support you in being truly excellent. You see, we prioritise learning and enabling you to achieve your potential. So we've created a development process that lets you grow in the way that suits you - whether that's training to be a leader, or learning flexibly online.
