Inspiring Menopause Stories: Claire

As a working single mother, my activity levels had drifted down to almost nothing. I was aware from news reports that my muscles would be disappearing now I was over 50, and with menopause on the horizon, I knew I needed to take action. Sadly, I was busy, constantly tired, and not sleeping past 4-5am - caught in a vicious circle. I felt life was defeating me! Habit change is SO HARD, and life always offered an excuse – no time, no energy!
Then my son fell ill – so ill that after leaving the hospital, he needed to be dragged out for a walk for his rehab. I found one hour a day for him because he is important. Then a light-bulb moment happened – I am important too!
When he recovered, I decided that hour would now be for me. I joined the local gym and booked into classes – Pilates, pump, conditioning, yoga. These activities are not only great for overall fitness but are also beneficial for managing my menopause symptoms. Because the class is booked, I found it much easier to go. If it's not booked, I get lazy!
Now I go 4-7 times a week and cannot imagine life without my gym. Six months later, I am stronger, happier, and finally staying asleep! I've also been able to get toned too. Physical activity has helped manage my menopause symptoms, making this journey even more rewarding!
