Safeguarding Adults Week: Our Reconditioning Programme

Since 2021 we have been delivering the Reconditioning Programme in Reading. This programme supports older people to improve their strength, mobility and confidence. It involves visiting these individuals within their own homes to deliver one-to-one coaching sessions.
Given the setting and nature of the programme our Reconditioning Instructors, Kate and Laura, are exposed to different home environments and often have more detailed conversations with individuals about their physical and mental wellbeing compared to what might ordinarily go on in other physical activity-type environments. These factors combined mean that on occasions the individuals referred onto the Reconditioning Programme need additional support that goes beyond the parameters of the programme.
All of our work at Get Berkshire Active is in collaboration with other partners and it has been evident, on more than one occasion, how imperative this is for the health and wellbeing of the participants involved in this particular programme. More specifically our connections with the Reading Social Prescribers and Age UK mean that we can ensure, where appropriate, that individuals receive additional support where needed, for example, this might be for help with their mental or social health or it might be for more practical help around the home. For any individual where it is deemed that more support might be needed they are kept involved throughout and are empowered to make a decision on the best way forward for themselves.
Our safeguarding adults procedures mean that we can collect and record the necessary details and then discuss and agree who the most appropriate individual/s or organisation/s to contact to promote positive outcomes for the adults being supported.
